Hope the hostility subsides Kristopher - I wrote Letters from Russia to encourage peace and openness rather than conflict and consternation.

Whichever way you view LfR, this work of fiction is definitely not a "prank" and certainly was not meant to confuse anyone - I thought the "note to reader "preface would make the fictional nature clear.

As pointed out in the interview, i wrote the letters individually in the summer of 2004 and bundled them along with paintings in a book made of wood and hemp. Now wondering what to do with the project next.

I have just learned that these letters are not authentic. I had feared as much. More should have been done to make that fact obvious from the outset, and the fact that more was not done leaves me now feeling somewhat hostile towards the work and its author. This "project" seems to me to be nothing more than a well written prank.

I agree with you that we need to legalize all drugs, because everybody who wants to do them is already doing them. People always want to do something they are not supposed to do. It infuriates me that we give criminals such an easy way to make money. We could put the black market out of business over night, if we would simply legalize all of the products being sold on the black market. Put thousands of criminals out of business over night. Wow, imagine that. Of course then, it wouldn't be so easy for us to put hundreds of thousands of black people in prison, so I guess we should probably keep drugs legal just so that we can keep arresting as many black people as possible, for no good reason. That way the people who build prisons can keep making lots of money! It makes perfect sense!

With billions of dollars invested into the court, jail, and prison systems, it's really to bad our country hasn't woke up and ended the prohibition of cannabis marijuana. There is another way: Currently the State of Washington could really use extra revenue. My recommendation is for the State of Washington to sell growing permit's, that anyone over the age of 21 could purchase at there local City Hall for $300. per year. The $300. would be broken down thirds, and each $100. distributed back to the purchasers City, County, and State. When someone is a felon, it should be for a felony crime, not because government has inflated the crime to harass Mexicans (the first state to make a law for anti marijuana was Texas to harass Mexicans crossing the border back in the early 1900's, followed by Texas asking the Federal Government to add it to other dangerous drugs during the opium war also in the early 1900's. The Food & Drug Administration was started to inform the public what is in food, drugs and later cosmetics - not to tell us what we can & can not eat or take. For 10,000 years people have used marijuana. For 100 years, our country has harassed our own people, calling marijuana a dangerous drug. As we move backwards to the 1929/30 depression period, there is going to be more & more serious crimes, as people get poorer and have less attributed to the current rapid inflation. End prohibition for marijuana now, so the legal and prison systems' can concentrate on far more serious issues and with any inflation period in our history, serious crimes went up fast. If there is a nuclear war in the near future, another reason for selling state growing permits to so many motivated growers state wide, is the state has now motivated people from all parts of the state to learn how to grow. Now there's extra revenue for government without harassing the people. Caught without a permit could be a $3,000. fine. I am sure most people would be happy to pay $300. for a permit. I've heard estimated to date, that over 100 million American's have smoked marijuana. Marijuana can be added to beverages & food and it helps with longivity of health & life. Sorry still can not smoke and drive, that's still a DWI/DUI. Let's once and for all end the prohibition for mature-adult's in our country.

Wow, dude, that is a phenomenal amount of work. I was going to try a roundup myself, but after this it would only be derivative.

PS Thanks for the complement on the prose. God knows I'm not in this racket for the money!

See you at NV 2009 if not sooner.

As an every day printer Brother is just fine but I agree with you, as a photo printer it's hugely disappointing, for real! I even switched cartridges, thinking they were getting old because of the dull colors coming out. But no change. Thanks for writing about it. I'm obviously not the only one feeling this way about the printer.

Thanks for the positive kudos! The day after I returned these bikes to Justin, there was a truly unfortunate misunderstanding that resulted in CTV News doing a hatchet job on me and calling me a 'bike thief and fence'. Hurt like hell to hear that and have the Bike Rescue name smeared, but when I get to see people like Justin smiling after they get their bikes returned I figure I can take a fell bad punches. And send us the info on your beloved Klein, you never know what we might come across!

Cheers!

Ron Paul said he would work to end the "War on Drugs"

As President, he can have a major impact on that promise. These 'federal agencies', like the DEA, etc., are under the command of the executive branch. Although the "War on Drugs" cannot be abolished without congressional approval, Ron Paul would be able to nullify their activities while in the Whitehouse.

Who else has said they would do that?

Obama is sidestepping the issue by claiming he would end the alleged"Bush" administrations policies. Just like the other major issues around war and the economy

He's a player.

Nice post. I thot the Legion supported freedom of speech. Didn't their veterans fight so that we could wear ANY poppy? Or did they just fight for RED poppies? Did my uncle die in WWII for RED opoppies only? I don't think so. The RCL glorifies all ALL wars, and wants the monopoly to do so. So a plague on their house!

[...] I had the phone for one week, it was given to me as a part of an independent study (ie. not through Rogers or anything). Along with 4 other people in the group, we all chose one task that involved the phone. We decided to document our various commutes throughout that one week. I also used the phone as a full-time camera and every photo I took with it is in a Flickr set. After that week I had to give the phone back. It was a bit of a tease but it wasn’t the most user-friendly phone, I’ll just miss the camera on it mostly as it was better than the small digital cam that John and I share. You can read more about what the others were up to on their wrap-up posts, like Dave’s. [...]

Ahh, the memories.

bear in mind that it's probably easier to get a work visa for say a year than it is to come to Canada as a permanent resident.

If you want to become a Permanent Resident the process can take a long time. For instance a skilled worker applying in London for Permanent Residence can expect the process to take from 30 - 41 months from when you send you application in.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/02a-skilled-fed.asp

Do not under estimate the complexity of the process - US Citizens may have an easier time of it, for others the wait time can be considerable.

One last thing, Dave wasn't joking about the Hockey!

One last thing, Dave wasn’t joking about the Hockey!

Ahoy Mr. Demille!

Those slacking scientists - You'd think they could figure out perpetual motion by now! Take away their grants i say! Also still not sure who's impact was more significant between the the lads from Dublin or boys from Athens.

Decades pass as knowledge decreases somehow exponentially.

You remain the only prom king, military covert specialist, folk-roots singer i know tending bar in Vega$. I'll roll in for a pint of the dark if i stumble through ... In the meantime, i'll download your songs and hear what you have to say to the people.

Best,

How random to find you musing about R.E.M. , pondering perpetual motion, and our conversations about U2 in the 1980's!

Hope you are well. Glad you are still listening to the good stuff!

Love Human and the Humans. Met them in Hawaii at Uncle Roberts. The came to meet him and gave us a really cool Sovereignty performance. Really Beautiful people. Told us they would be there for us.

With more people like this the world can rest in peace after what our ancestors have done to her for hundreds and thousands of years. Sing on fair and light souls there are people listening and singing along.

The second title I found only as a 2 disk DVD for around $30.

The Whitecaps stadium does not require a world-famous waterfront setting (next to and blotting out iconic Canada Place), especially as plans include a roof in order to to accommodate year-round events. With a roof, no one will be giving the occasional glance at the water -- so why have such a massive beast using up waterfront space. Most successful cities would be more respectful of a last piece of waterfront.

The transportation hub is cool, but throw 15 -30,000 hyped-up fans into the mix, and no one will be going anywhere fast. That could mean you, trying to get to the airport on time.

Building a new stadium and tearing down an old one (BC Place) -- how green is that? Come on Whitecaps, give this City a little more respect.

Yo, DaveO.

You can't go wrong with a friend like Rev. Bob. As you, I too shun exclusivity in all religions and philosophies.

I completed my first read of his "God Refined" work last night and his mental wisdom as well as spiritual truth and courage is superb. Indeed, after reading his insights, i now have no excuses for not becoming a better person. He has well placed the "spiritual ball" in my court and the court of each and every individual at a grass roots level. No one, not even God will force us to do what is right, it is our free will responsibility to do it from the ground up without anyone pulling our strings... Here you have found more than a transient observation, even a universal, eternal, and infinite one.

Keep on keeping on, DaveO. All the best to you and your loved ones, today and forever... richard
